The ceramic-search skill teaches your coding agent to turn questions into keyword queries, search the web with Ceramic, and answer with cited sources. It follows the open Agent Skills standard, so one command installs it into multiple supported agents.
Using Claude Code or Codex? Pick one: install this skill, or install the Ceramic plugin, which signs in with OAuth instead of an API key. Installing both gives your agent two copies of the same skill.

Prerequisites

  • Node.js, to run the installer
  • A coding agent that can run shell commands
  • A Ceramic API key

Get API Key

Create a Ceramic account for free to get an API key.

Setup

  1. Set your API key in the environment your agent runs in:
  2. Install the skill from your terminal:
The installer detects the coding agents on your machine and asks where to install the skill.
  3. Start a new agent session and ask a question that needs current information, such as “What are the latest news headlines about the Artemis II mission?” A successful run shows an answer followed by numbered source links.
Your agent may ask for permission the first time it runs the search command.

How the skill works

When your question needs current information, the agent:
  1. Rewrites your question as a 2–8 word keyword query, since Ceramic matches exact keywords.
  2. Calls the Ceramic Search API with your CERAMIC_API_KEY. If your agent also has the Ceramic MCP server connected, the skill uses the MCP tool instead.
  3. Writes an answer from the results and lists the sources it used.
To update the skill later, run npx skills update ceramic-search.
